Overview
This course focusses on specialised production methods used in construction, including soft technologies and managerial issues associated with on-site operations. Students in this course will understand the constructs of standard method statements and how to develop method-specific project estimates.
The aim of this course is to provide a broad understanding of on-site production operations in construction projects. Students will learn about contract formation, construction methods, method statements, method-specific costing, team management, project transformation, work scheduling, subcontractor management, productivity enhancement and lean construction. In addition, in this course, students will also learn about on-site quality, safety and digital tools in relation to production management.
Course learning outcomes
The course objectives define the student learning outcomes for a course. On completion of this course, student should be able to:
- Develop Scope Statements;
- Describe specific methods that define on-site operations;
- Develop an appropriate Method Statement based on defined concepts of production operations;
- Develop project estimates using Method Statement approach;
- Define project milestones, understand how to manage primary stakeholders, and analyse work progress;
- Justify the relevance and importance of soft technologies and construction concepts in targeted at enhancing productivity, teamwork, communication, safety, quality and digitization.
