Overview
Engineering and built environment managers may, at various times in their careers, be responsible for the administration and control of projects. It is therefore essential that such people have a sound knowledge of organisational principles, human resource management, financial management, and contract administration.
The course briefly revises and then builds upon undergraduate management studies in the major areas of project estimating and planning, feasibility studies, contract law, financial management, management theory and personnel management.
Course learning outcomes
- Appraise management principles and human resources planning in engineering and built environment projects;
- Develop a schedule for a project using graphical methods and relevant software;
- Develop a quality management plan for a project;
- Compare projects through feasibility and economic analyses;
- Implement the principles of accounting, management statistics and value management in engineering and built environment projects;
- Appraise the functions of business management and contract law in engineering and built environment projects;
- Analyse project health and safety, sustainability, and environmental protection practices.
