Overview
Paramedic Placement 3 provides students with the opportunity to further advance their skills during a full-time practical experience with the Queensland Ambulance Service or other placement provider. Students will work as the third officer on an emergency ambulance vehicle and will be expected to perform as a functional team member under the instruction of the ambulance crew. Students will be expected to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge and skills as compared to Paramedic Placement 1 and 2 as they will have undertaken further study in the interim period.
This course is a competency-based course, and assessment items must be successfully completed to pass the course. These competency items form part of the UniSQ accreditation agreement with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
This course contains a mandatory on-campus post-placement residential school. To pass this course, students must attend the residential school. Students non-compliance with the attendance requirement will mean the student cannot pass the course. This will be held after the completion of the clinical placement block.
The third practical placement of five weeks provides the students with the opportunity to perform as a functional member of a paramedic team under the supervision of a qualified paramedic. The student should incorporate their increased knowledge and skills by contributing to assessment and management of patients who present with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, as well as the general assessment of other patients.

On successful completion of this course students should be able to:
- Self-evaluate performance in a clinical situation with regard to skills and attitude
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to interact with people from diverse age groups and cultures
- Demonstrate active participation in decision making regarding the assessment and management appropriate to Year 3 student
- Assess and appropriately manage individuals presenting with cardiovascular, respiratory, and behavioural conditions
- Demonstrate the use of evidence-based practice to manage individuals in a clinical environment
- Demonstrate ethical, professional, and safe behaviour in a clinical environment, adhering to applicable National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, AHPRA Professional Standards [or capabilities] and industry requirements.
