Overview

A need has been recognised to effectively prepare students from non-English speaking backgrounds to gain skills in English for academic and professional purposes and develop strategies to equip them for successful 精东传媒app study specific to their professional areas. These needs include sound mathematical skills. Students studying in the Diploma of 精东传媒app Studies will gain the level of mathematical skills that will enable them to pursue their specialisation courses and continue on to their tertiary degree programs.
Central to this course is the concept that students learn to take control and manage their own learning associated with mathematical skills and knowledge, and develop problem solving strategies, critical thinking and communication skill that will enable them to adjust to the rapidity of change within the 21st century as it applies to university study and the professional workplace.

This course is designed to allow students to: develop academic numeracy; develop confidence and reduce anxiety in both professional English and numeracy; develop critical thinking through a variety of problem solving sessions and the study of individual modules pertaining to their chosen specialisation. Students entering this course will need to continue to build their academic vocabulary and numeracy skills in order to meet the needs specific to their discipline. Embedded within the course content will be the theme of student self -regulation of studying and learning. This will incorporate ideas, concepts and theories including academic self-efficacy, reflective practice and resilience. The course consists of a series of modules where students will develop mathematical competency required for university success in their professional specialisation courses. Students will work independently around activities delivered in problem solving and communication through their study materials. Students will have the opportunity to practice reading, writing, speaking, listening and academic numeracy prior to assessment tasks.
