Overview

Integral to a career as a practising filmmaker, is the ability to understand and participate in location production operations. Location Production 1 is a foundational course that develops student's filmmaking ability for practice in a location environment. Students will be introduced to the theory and practical skills required for single camera location production in the context of a working film crew. This includes field lighting, field sound recording, and camera operations associated with the location production environment. Student participate in collaborative activities aimed at developing prototype behaviours of a functional, practicing filmmaker, including teamwork, flexibility, leadership, reliability, interpersonal skills and self-reflection. Students need these basic skills to move into more advanced studies in filmmaking.

As a foundational course, students will be introduced to basic university requirements for the successful academic study of filmmaking. The course is taught by expert staff who possess expertise in this area of filmmaking. Location Production introduces students to the theory and practice of single camera location film production. Students will use key concepts and practices as they apply to camera operations, lighting, sound and audio recording in a location environment. Students will complete a series of authentic assessment tasks based on industry practice in film making that reflect industry aligned skills and current knowledge. Students will be supported by the Audio-Visual Centres at Toowoomba and Springfield. Location Production is a foundation course for FSP1002 Location Production 2 and FSP2001 Documentary Production and Reality TV.
