Overview

Beginning university is a journey of new environments and experiences. Students within the IHEP program come from many different communities across the country with various levels of interaction with the higher education system and a university environment. This course provides a bridge to understanding the unique environment of a university. Following a national drive to enhance the overall student experience this course develops skills that allow students to navigate effectively through university systems, policies and curriculum. Students gain the skills to independently manage their learning journey and the confidence to take control of their education. In doing so this course supports students to develop the communication skills necessary to actively participate within their program and the university as a whole.

The course is designed to help students transition into a university environment by guiding them to explore and embrace their role as students. This course allows students to explore their new environment and future career requirements within an enabling framework. Central to this course is the practical aspects of being a successful student at university. At times students are required to understand university policies, procedures and curriculum design as well as how to access study support. This course will enable and facilitate this understanding and allow students to start their undergraduate study fully informed and empowered within their educational journey.
