Overview
This course will provide students with the opportunity to acquire learn fundamental knowledge required to practice as a Paramedic. This course will introduce students to the culture, concepts, history and development of paramedicine. Completion of this course will enable students to develop the communication and social skills required for the dynamic environment of paramedicine.
This course will provide students with the opportunity to establish foundational knowledge of concepts that are important to the role of paramedics. Students will have the opportunity to examine the history of pre-hospital care, structure and function of ambulance services in Australia and internationally, and the role of paramedics within the healthcare system including the delivery of services to vulnerable people. Additionally, students will determine the importance of infection control through the use of universal precautions and personal protective equipment. Finally, this course will enable students to learn common medical terminology which will assist them to communicate in a professional manner and strengthen their role in the broader healthcare team.
