This course is a requirement for professional accreditation at exercise science level with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). During this course, students will complete at least 155 professional placement hours, which may include up to 15 hours delivered as simulated learning activities.

The course further develops students’ knowledge and skills learned in undergraduate exercise science courses. The ability to apply knowledge and skills in an ethically responsible and risk managed manner is required.

Note that some professional placement may be required on campus at Ipswich, and some professional placement may be undertaken at other sites, which may be a considerable distance from any USQ campus. Students may be required to complete placements at more than one location. Some placement locations may be rural or remote. Professional placement is unpaid.

The placement course provides students with the opportunity to develop the ability to communicate theoretical knowledge and to apply practical skills in a proficient manner. The course outlines opportunities to value add to professional skills developed during the course and as a practitioner. The importance of evidence based research and the ability to draw together knowledge and skills from different discipline areas is outlined. Effective time management skills and work related documentation processes to ensure successful completion of the course are provided during the program of study.
