Overview

In this minicourse, we will explore a range of issues and understandings around identifying child abuse and neglect. You will encounter key elements of what constitutes child abuse and neglect, and explore the complexities of defining abuse across a range of contexts. You will be presented with an exploration of theoretical perspectives that will deepen your insights and awareness of multi-layered elements of child abuse, and the importance of understanding context and culture when identifying it. We will also cover frameworks for decision making and reporting processes.

This minicourse will help students identify and define the various indicators and key characteristics of child abuse and neglect. Students will learn how to assess risk and create reports.
