Overview

This course is one of two Curation, Innovation and Cultural Management capstone courses. The aim of these capstone courses is to facilitate the integration of advanced level learned knowledge and the industry standard for employability and project outcomes.

Visual art and culture have undergone significant changes over the course of the last decade and a trend is emerging that sees art and culture take a turn from the cultural studies model and focus on art as a text or signifying matrix, to art as a visual and cultural object of analysis, often interpreted through a thematic lens. To align student鈥檚 learning outcomes with industry expectations, this course is aimed at further developing skills and knowledge gained by students in the course of their studies to an advanced level of learning and practical understanding of art interpreted through a thematic frame located in contemporary culture.

This advanced course in cultural theory, visual analysis and thematic interpretation will engage the student in historical and contemporary understanding of art theory and practice as a cultural and visual object of analysis. This will be delivered by a series of seminars on the topics of visual culture and analysis of works of art through examples from industry and associated literature on the topics.
