Program aims
The programs aims to produce graduates who have a mastery of a range of multimedia skills, supported by extensive contextual studies in communication/media theory and policy, and professional skills in a preferred area of public relations, business, commerce, visual arts, further education and training, or management.
This program especially caters for students who have completed the TAFE Diploma of Multimedia Studies and the TAFE Diploma of Graphic Design.
Program objectives
On successful completion of the program, students should be able to demonstrate competency in the following multimedia skills:

Create 2D animations using typographic and graphic elements;

Create, source and edit appropriate industry sound and voice elements;

Capture still and real time video and manipulate images;
-
Create, and edit, bitmapped and vector images;
-
Manage a computer-based digital imaging system;
-
Design computer interface components of a multimedia application; and
-
Manipulate basic elements and principles of art and design within a multimedia context.

have a knowledge of communication/media theory and policy as it relates to traditional media;

demonstrate competency in using computers, an understanding of Australia and its region, and a knowledge of the basic principles of communication and scholarship; and

have developed professional or artistic skills in at least one discipline selected from mass communication, business, commerce, education, languages, or creative arts.
Admission requirements
Admission to the Bachelor of Multimedia Studies will require either:
-
successful completion of the Diploma of Multimedia by a recognised national provider such as TAFE or QANTM
-
or completion of the Diploma of Graphic Design from TAFE.
Upon successful completion of the Diploma of Multimedia (or Diploma of Graphic Design), the student will apply through QTAC for entry into the Bachelor of Multimedia Studies. (Students may apply to QTAC in September of the year in which the Diploma is likely to be completed.)
In November/December of the year preceding commencement of the USQ program, the student must submit a portfolio of work indicating their level of achievement. This portfolio must be delivered to, and collected from USQ Faculty of Arts by the student. the portfolio must comprise evidence of:

capture, manipulation and composition of Bitmap images
-
design covering the areas of colour harmony, balance, construction etc.

consistent client/audience-focussed screen design and layout
-
interactive design with a coherent navigational system
-
audio, graphic, textual and video elements at a standard acceptable to industry production values
-
storyboarding, design, and management of a multimedia project/production.
It should be submitted as interactive CD with Mac or PC compliance.
On the basis of this portfolio and successful completion of the Diploma, the USQ Multimedia Coordinator will determine admission to the program and the courses required to complete the program.

A Commonwealth supported place is where the Australian Government
makes a contribution towards the cost of your higher education and

Domestic full fee paying places are funded entirely through

Permanent Humanitarian Visa holders,
Permanent Resident visa holders and New Zealand citizens who reside
outside Australia pay full tuition fees.

International students pay full fees. Full fees vary depending on the courses that are taken and whether they are studied on-campus, via distance education/online. You are able to calculate the fees for a particular course via the .
Program structure
The Bachelor of Multimedia Studies is a full-time two or three year program (depending on entry level) that may be completed over six years of part-time study. Maximum time for completion is nine years.
Students may complete the program by completing two years of full-time study (or equivalent part-time/external study) after completion of a one-year Diploma of Multimedia from TAFE or a similar provider. Students who hold a Diploma of Graphic Design or various other Diplomas are also eligible for admission.
Students who have completed the Diploma of Multimedia or Diploma of Graphic Design will be granted an eight-unit exemption from the Bachelor of Multimedia Studies and will be required to complete 16 units over two years, as follows:

Students who take Multimedia Project Management as their first or second minor study are required to take only four units of the major in Communication and Media Studies. However, such students must take an additional minor study from any one discipline.

Major studies
First major study/program core
All students must either hold a Diploma of Multimedia or complete the Diploma of Multimedia (from TAFE) simultaneously with the Bachelor of Multimedia Studies (or hold a Diploma of Graphic Design). Students may elect to take more advanced level multimedia courses after completion of the Diploma by taking minor study Multimedia Project Management.
Second major study
A second major study is a specified group of courses from the same discipline with a value of six units, of which two must be at third year level. All students are required to complete the Communication and Media Studies major or a four-unit minor from this discipline. A list of preferred majors/minors appears at the end of this section.

Minor studies
Option Studies are designed to enable students to widen their knowledge and perspectives. Courses must be taken over two levels and should be from the same discipline. A list of minors appears at the end of this section. Some students may be required to take one to four Multimedia courses as a minor study.
Elective courses
Elective Studies are designed to enable students to further increase their knowledge and widen their perspectives. Choice of an elective will depend on the availability of the course(s), timetabling constraints, quotas, and other restrictions such as auditions and interviews in certain areas of the Arts, as well as approval by the Student Adviser and confirmation by the Program Coordinator.
Courses available for elective study are generally those found in Option Studies and are listed in the section of this Handbook.
IT requirements
Access to high-level computers is necessary. On-campus students will access appropriately equipped laboratories, but should consider acquisition of their own computer. External students should be able to access a computer with the following minimum standards:

Pentium or equivalent, 128Mb Ram, 20Gb 7200 RPM Hard disk, SVGA with at least 32Mb video RAM, Windows 2000*, mouse, sound card, CD-RW drive, modem; or

Apple Mac or equivalent, 12Mb Ram, 20Gb 7200 RPM Hard Disk, 15 inch Monitor, Mac RO 9.2 or later, CD-RW drive, modem.

Preferred browser standards are the latest versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape.

External students should be able to access a computer with the following as advised by the 精东传媒app. All students should have access to email and the Internet via a computer running the latest versions of Internet web browsers such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. The 精东传媒app has a wireless network for on-campus students' computers. In order to take advantage of this facility and further enhance their on-campus learning environment, students should consider purchasing a notebook/laptop computer with wireless connectivity. A notebook/laptop may be required for some courses.
Articulation
Students who enrol in the Bachelor of Multimedia Studies, but who do not wish to complete the full program, may be eligible for the award of Associate Degree in Multimedia Studies, providing that they have completed:

the requirements for the award of the Diploma of Multimedia from TAFE
-
core courses , Alternative Arts core course and
-
four units from the Communication and Media Studies major or Multimedia courses
-
two units from any other discipline.
