Program focus
For Arts students
The program aims to provide students with an introduction to
study in Arts disciplines and programs, and to provide a basic qualification
for credit transfer/exemption in other programs.
For students intending to transfer to other USQ programs
The Diploma of Arts is available as an entry point for most
USQ programs not subject to auditions and interview requirements.
This program should appeal to those who have left school but who want
to sample a range of university subjects before embarking on a more
specialised degree program. The program offers substantial choice
and flexibility, allowing entry to a wide range of career and study
options, including transfer to other degree programs.
It should be noted that Nursing and Teaching Practice courses
are not available in this degree.

and social sciences

least one discipline area

Admission requirements
Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
Students seeking to enrol in Music, Theatre or Visual Arts courses
must pass the relevant audition/portfolio requirements.
International applicants must have met the or have completed the programs.
How to apply
Domestic students
may be made through
the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). The same procedure
applies whether you plan to study on-campus or by distance education.
If you completed Year 12 at a Queensland secondary school you
will be assessed for entry on the basis of your Overall Position (OP)
or equivalent score. Year 12 students from other states or territories
are considered for entry on the basis of their UAI, ENTER or TER and
the subject prerequisites indicated. Other applicants will be based
on their overall Rank.
International students
This program is offered to international students. An international
student is a person who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen
and not an Australian permanent resident. Please refer to for information about entry requirements, visa arrangements and

Commonwealth supported place
A Commonwealth supported place is where the Australian Government
makes a contribution towards the cost of your higher education and
you as a student pay a , which varies depending on the

Domestic full fee paying place
Domestic full fee paying places are funded entirely through
the full fees paid by the student. Full fees vary depending on the

Permanent Humanitarian Visa holders,
Permanent Resident visa holders and New Zealand citizens who reside
outside Australia pay full tuition fees.

via distance education/online. You are able to calculate the fees

Program structure
The Diploma of Arts comprises eight units of study, generally
requiring completion of eight courses, one of which is a core course.
The remaining seven units of courses come from USQ course offerings.
While students may choose any seven courses, it is recommended that
study is chosen from three discipline areas unless students plan to
complete seven units from a major study in a single discipline area.
The Diploma of Arts articulates into other Faculty of Arts degree
programs and may articulate into programs from other faculties. Students
are advised to discuss their course choices with the Program Coordinator
to ensure optimal articulation pathways. In particular, courses can

Required time limits
Students have a maximum of 4 years to complete this program.
Core courses
Commencing students must complete or equivalent in their first semester
of study.
Residential schools
Attendance at a is recommended for students enrolled externally
in Indonesian Language courses.
Articulation
A Diploma of Arts, subject to selection of appropriate courses,
articulates into most USQ programs. Students must keep in mind that
normal entry requirements still apply for their chosen area of study
ie interviews, auditions etc.
Exit points
This program can be used as an exit point for all USQ programs,
where a student has completed at least eight courses.
Exemptions
Graduates from other USQ programs may be exempted from the core
requirements of the Diploma of Arts.
Course transfers
Courses may be transferred to other programs; students should
consult the relevant Faculty.
