Program focus
The Indigenous Higher Education Pathways Program (IHEPP) has
been developed to give Indigenous students tertiary preparation skills,
with an Indigenous focus.
If you would like to undertake university study but don't have
the right school qualifications, or if you have been out of formal
education for a while and feel your skills are a bit rusty, IHEPP
is for you. The main emphasis of IHEPP is to develop computing, communication,
mathematical, analytical and study skills necessary for successful
tertiary study.
Successful completion of IHEPP may lead to enrolment into a
USQ undergraduate program, increased employment opportunities, and
the opportunity to apply for entry into other universities.
Program aims
The program aim is to provide equitable access to tertiary study
for Indigenous people , who for social, economic and cultural reasons,
have missed out on educational opportunities at various stages of
their lives. Successful completion of the Indigenous Higher Education
Pathways Program (IHEPP) will lead to admission to specified undergraduate
award programs of the ¾«¶«´«Ã½app.
Program objectives
This program will enable students to:

gain the necessary pre-tertiary knowledge and skills in numeracy,
communication, literacy and computing for entry into USQ's degree
programs

attain the academic study skills required to successfully complete
higher education degrees

demonstrate a strong and positive sense of Indigenous identity,
culture and heritage

develop mastery of skills in each of the learning areas through
attendance at residential schools
-
develop career and employment potential through the successful
completion of the IHEPP courses/program and subsequent future degree
programs.
Admission requirements
Although there are no formal requirements, students wishing
to be admitted to the program are required to undertake a selection-testing
program in order to assess their levels of literacy and numeracy.
Where applicants demonstrate a level of entry skill below that judged
necessary for success in the IHEPP or individual courses, they will
be advised to undertake pre-tertiary courses/programs through TAFE
colleges and/or other agencies.
Students who have successfully completed the IHEPP will be eligible
to seek entry to USQ undergraduate award courses. However, as the
courses in the IHEPP are non-award, there is no possibility of unit
or credit transfer to an undergraduate award program.

Fee exempt places
All domestic students are offered a fee-free place provided
they meet the citizenship and residency requirements as follows:

Australian citizens

holders of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa (and resident in Australia)

holders of a Permanent Resident Visa (and resident in Australia)
-
New Zealand citizens (resident in Australia).

To complete the requirements of the program, a student must
successfully complete specified non-award courses, with a value of
four units. Students may choose from the following programs:
Other information
Students who require a higher-level mathematics course as an
entry requirement for a particular award program may choose from one
of the Tertiary Preparation Program courses offered by the Open Access
College.

The recommended enrolment pattern for an individual student
is dependent on the award program to which the student is seeking
entry.
Students should note that they are able to choose more than
four courses to study across two or three terms, if desired.
