Program aims

The Master of Project Management aims to produce graduates who have appropriate skills and knowledge to be capable of managing small, medium and large-sized projects as a senior team leader, a project manager or project director.

Program objectives

Upon completion of the Master of Project Management students will be able to:

• demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical structure of project management as defined by the Project Management Body of Knowledge

• demonstrate essential skills in relation to identification and analysis of logistics management, and integrate logistics management into the overall operation of the organisation

• apply the theoretical principles of project management to a project environment in relation to project:

  • scheduling and time management

  • cost management

  • quality management

  • human resources management

  • communications management

  • risk management

  • procurement management

  • integration management

  • scope management

  
  

• apply management skills acquired through elective courses in the context of project management.

Admission requirements

Candidates for entry into the Master of Project Management must:

• hold at least a three-year tertiary qualification at bachelor degree or equivalent level from a recognised institution in an appropriate discipline as deemed sufficient and appropriate on application

• have a minimum of two years' full-time equivalent relevant work experience as deemed sufficient and appropriate on application.

Candidates who do not have a degree will be permitted to enrol in the Postgraduate Certificate of Business (Project Management), provided that they have a minimum of 3 years' full-time equivalent work experience, which includes relevant experience as deemed sufficient and appropriate on application. Upon completion and achievement of a minimum GPA of 4.0, they will be eligible to articulate into the Master of Project Management.

Domestic and International Applicants from a non-English speaking background are required to satisfy .

Domestic full fee paying place

Domestic full fee paying places are funded entirely through the full fees paid by the student. Full fees vary depending on the courses that are taken. You are able to calculate the fees for a particular course via the

Program structure

The Master of Project Management has two strands: Project Management and Complex Project Management. Each is comprised of 8 single-unit courses as follows:

Strand 1: Project Management

The Project Management strand consists of:

• a choice of 4 core from 5 courses

• 1 specialisation or 4 elective courses.

Project Management strand students may study one of the following specialisation areas: Information Systems, Leadership, Property or any specialisation from the Master of Business Administration .

Students completing 4 courses from a single specialisation will be entitled to an appropriate endorsement on their testamur.

Some courses in these specialisations are only available in external mode.

Electives

Students may complete any 4 courses at 5000 or 8000 level from the Business and Commerce coursework Master programs subject to prerequisite requirements. Alternately students may choose 5000 or 8000 coursework courses from any USQ Masters program with the approval of the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts.

Strand 2: Complex Project Management

The Complex Project Management strand consists of 8 specified single-unit courses.

Articulation

On completion of the Master of Project Management, students may apply for entry into the Master of Business Administration program. The number of courses to be completed to satisfy the requirements to graduate from the Master of Business Administration will depend on the courses completed in the Master of Project Management. Students wishing to consider this option should contact the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts..

It is possible for students who do not meet standard admission requirements to articulate into the Master of Project Management from the Postgraduate Certificate of Business provided they have achieved a GPA of at least 4.0.

Students who wish to articulate to the higher award must lodge an application for entry to the relevant program.

Exit points

Students who do not complete the Master of Project Management, but who satisfy all the requirements of the Postgraduate Certificate of Business may be permitted to exit with that qualification.

Credit

Candidates for admission to the Master of Project Management may be eligible for up to four units of credit on the basis of either:

• prior successful completion of relevant, equivalent postgraduate study from a recognised university or institution offering equivalent study; or

• accreditation from the in their RegPM accreditation program, but only if accreditation is achieved at Certified Practising Project Manager (CPPM) level or higher, and only after completion of the 4 core courses for this program. Contact the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts for further information. Credit granted under this provision will be for one unit of credit only and will be included in the maximum credit available for this program as indicated above.

Claims for credit should be submitted prior to or at the time of enrolment in a course. Each claim will be assessed on individual merit in line with USQ policy. Credit approved in this program will not automatically apply to other programs offered by USQ.

Students are able to enrol in any offered mode of a course (on-campus, external or online), regardless of the program mode of study they enrolled in.

The recommended enrolment pattern set out in the table below is for a part-time student commencing the program in semester 1. It is strongly recommended that students enrol in prior to, or at the same time as, enrolling in subsequent project management courses.

Some of the courses in the Master of Project Management are offered in more than one semester. This provides flexibility for students and, consequently, there will be many different enrolment patterns.
