Program objectives
On successful completion of the English for Academic Purposes program, this program, students should be able to demonstrate:

an understanding of, and an adjustment to, the academic cultural context of the Australian university;
-
a capacity to take control of their own learning by using appropriate learning strategies;
-
confidence and ability to think critically and to analyse an argument;
-
competence in accessing and communicating concepts and ideas in spoken and written form as appropriate to the higher education context; and
-
a capacity to establish working relationships with their lecturers and other students.
Australian Qualifications Framework
The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a single national, comprehensive system of qualifications offered by higher education institutions (including universities), vocational education and training institutions and secondary schools. Each AQF qualification has a set of descriptors which define the type and complexity of knowledge, skills and application of knowledge and skills that a graduate who has been awarded that qualification has attained, and the typical volume of learning associated with that qualification type.
This program is at AQF Qualification Level 04. Graduates at this level will have theoretical and practical knowledge and skills for specialised and/or skilled work and/or further learning.

Admission requirements

Resident status: students on international student visas or students from non-English speaking backgrounds resident in Australia

Minimum academic requirements: completion of senior secondary schooling in the home country or Year 12 in an Australian High School or completed 'A' levels or mature-age entry.

EAP I - An entry level of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent international English language proficiency score.
EAP II (Undergraduate and coursework) - An entry level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent international English language proficiency score.
EAP II (Postgraduate research) - An entry level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent international English language proficiency score.
EAP I online – An entry level of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent international English language proficiency score OR completion of CSWE 111 (Certificate in spoken and written English). Online general English course from .

Domestic full fee paying place

Program completion requirements
USQ English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program completion requirements for articulation to USQ Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programs.
IELTS 6.0.
To successfully pass the EAP program and be recommended for entry into Category 1 and Category 2 Undergraduate and Postgraduate coursework degree programs at USQ, students must pass all courses in the EAP program.
IELTS 6.5.
Students entering Category 3 programs, must achieve the following results:
BNUR - Bachelor of Nursing | 'B' Grades across all EAPII courses. |
Postgraduate coursework awards in Category 3 | 'B' Grades across all EAPII courses. |
LLBP - Bachelor of Laws and LLBH - Bachelor of Laws (Honours) | 'A' Grades in and and 'B' Grades in all other EAPII courses. |
All Masters programs by Research and all Doctoral programs | Students entering at the EAPI level, must have 'B' Grades in all EAPI courses and 'A' Grades in all EAPII Courses. Students entering at the EAPII level, must have 'A' Grades in all EAPII courses. |
IELTS 7.0 / 7.5
Students cannot gain direct entry to Category 4 & 5 programs. Entry may be undertaken through an alternative pathway such as Bachelor of General Studies or other recommended enrolment.
Students failing courses in EAPP are required to retake those courses and seek recommendations from the Head of Program regarding a suitable pathway to gain entry to degree studies.
Students studying online are not eligible for entry to a postgraduate research or doctoral program at this time.
