Early Childhood Studies (VET only) (Secondary)
Students are able to enrol in any offered mode of a course (on-campus, external or online), regardless of the program mode of study they enrolled in.
This minor is only available to students who are studying the Bachelor of Education.
The primary focus of the Early Childhood Studies (VET only)
field of study and industry is to promote the wellbeing of young children
and a greater awareness of the importance of quality practices in
the wider community. Throughout the course, students are encouraged
to develop knowledge and understanding including human development,
the needs and rights of children, the value of play, concepts of childhood,
the role of parents, the importance of families, behaviour management,
special needs, work place health and safety, industry practice and
expectations, and legislation and ethical issues. Please refer to

Students need
to already have a Certificate I, II or III in Child Care.
Students
wishing to teach Early Childhood Studies as a minor Teaching Area must complete a minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 Teaching Area courses.
Students beginning in 2014 or later are required to complete at least
4 content courses and 1 Teaching Area specific curriculum and pedagogy
course. Once employed, in most schools it would be expected that you
would teach Early Childhood Studies Years 11 – 12.
