Junior Mathematics (Secondary)

Students are able to enrol in any offered mode of a course (on-campus, external or online), regardless of the program mode of study they enrolled in.

This minor is only available to students who are studying the Bachelor of Education.

The proficiency strands Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning are an integral part of mathematics content across the three content strands: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. The proficiencies reinforce the significance of working mathematically within the content and describe how the content is explored or developed. They provide the language to build in the developmental aspects of the learning of mathematics. For more information see the .
Students wishing to teach Mathematics as a minor Teaching Area must complete a minimum of 4 and maximum of 6 Teaching Area courses. Students beginning in 2014 or later are required to complete at least 4 content courses and 1 Teaching Area specific curriculum and pedagogy course. Once employed, in most schools it would be expected that you could teach: Mathematics Years 7 – 10; and perhaps Years 11 and 12: Functional Maths and Pre-vocational Maths, and Numeracy short course.
