Major studies

This section provides an overview of the Major Studies teaching areas.

Secondary Specialisation

A major Teaching Area is to be defined as a USQ Major (and printed on testamur) as well as being aligned with the relevant registering body’s terminology. Please select the Specific major(s) tab (left) or scroll down for further details.

A minor Teaching Area is to be defined as a USQ Minor as well as being aligned with the relevant registering body’s terminology. Please select the Minor Studies tab (menu) or scroll down for further details.

It may be useful for Queensland students to view the which indicates the names of schools which teach different subjects. The next section of the Handbook provides recommendations for courses to complete after you have selected your Teaching Area(s). Courses will change as the Queensland Curriculum & Assessment Authority (QCAA) and Australian Curriculum changes, and as USQ course offerings are modified. Not all teaching areas are offered online or at all campuses. Contact the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts if you have any questions. Email:usq.support@usq.edu.au.

B Ed (Secondary)

Primary

Students are able to enrol in any offered mode of a course (on-campus, external or online), regardless of the program mode of study they enrolled in.

Students are strongly encouraged to follow the recommended enrolment pattern for their specialisation. This is particularly important in respect to Professional Experience. Delaying Professional Experience may delay program completion by up to four (4) years.

Students following a non-standard enrolment pattern should consult the section to ascertain if a course is offered in another semester.

Note: Minimum enrolment numbers apply to all courses. Should enrolments not meet the minimum number required, students may be transferred to a different mode or offering and advised of this change prior to semester start.

Note: The Primary specialisation is available at Springfield and Toowoomba campuses.
