Program aims

The Diploma of English for ¾«¶«´«Ã½app Studies aims to develop students’ capacity to manage information, build knowledge and communicate ideas proficiently in English in both spoken and written forms, with a specific focus on enhancing academic English language skills to meet the more sophisticated communication demands of tertiary studies in particular professions. English language proficiency is benchmarked at Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) 73 and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level C1+.

Program objectives

  1. Develop students’ capacity to prepare for and complete an internationally recognized test of proficiency in English language, at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) Level C1+, which meets requirements for future professional registration.

  2. Develop students’ capacity to comprehend and produce spoken texts clearly and appropriately in English at a near-native level for fluent and spontaneous professional dialogue.

  3. Develop students’ capacity to manage written information, think critically, and build knowledge in English at a near native-like level to meet the complex communication demands of tertiary studies for particular professions.

  4. Develop students’ capacity to communicate effectively in appropriate written and oral forms at a near native-like level of communicative competence which meets acceptable requirements for professional purposes and audiences.

Australian Qualifications Framework

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a single national, comprehensive system of qualifications offered by higher education institutions (including universities), vocational education and training institutions and secondary schools. Each AQF qualification has a set of descriptors which define the type and complexity of knowledge, skills and application of knowledge and skills that a graduate who has been awarded that qualification has attained, and the typical volume of learning associated with that qualification type.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

Completion of senior secondary schooling in the home country or equivalent, or Year 12 in an Australian high school.

Normally, to be eligible for enrolment in the program a person will have attained an age of at least 18 years in the year of the proposed enrolment.

Students will need to complete the online application form for entry to the program.

All students are required to satisfy the applicable .

If students do not meet the English language requirements they may apply to study a ¾«¶«´«Ã½app-approved . On successful completion of the English language program, students may be admitted to an award program.

Program structure

This program consists of eight core courses as seen below. Students must first successfully complete the four core courses from the Certificate of English for ¾«¶«´«Ã½app Studies (EUS1001, EUS1002, EUS1003, EUS1004). After that, students progress to complete the remaining four Diploma courses. All eight courses can be taken in a single academic year for those pursuing full-time studies.

Diploma of ¾«¶«´«Ã½app Studies Recommended Enrolment Pattern

Students are able to enrol in any offered mode of a course (on-campus, external or online), regardless of the program mode of study they enrolled in.

Students undertaking the Diploma of English for ¾«¶«´«Ã½app ¾«¶«´«Ã½app must complete the four Level I, compulsory courses first. The recommended enrolment pattern is as follows:
