Professional accreditation

Accounting major graduates will meet the educational entrance requirements of and (CAANZ). This provides Associate membership of CPA Australia, eligibility to study the CPA Australia professional exams and eligibility to study the CAANZ professional exams.

The Accounting major is accredited by the (CIMA) and the (AIA).

Successful completion of the Accounting major can qualify students for exemptions from the Fundamental level (9 papers) of the (ACCA) exams.

The Counselling major will contribute towards (PACFA) eligibility: if students attend the voluntary residential schools within the Bachelor of Science Counselling major, their attendance will be recorded so their attendance will meet a proportion of the required number of hours of face-to-face instruction/tuition for eligibility to join a PACFA affiliate upon graduation. Students not attending the residential school will not accrue any hours toward eligibility to join a PACFA affiliate upon graduation.

Finance major graduates will meet the educational entrance requirements to become a member of the (Finsia).

The Information Technology major and Information Technology Management major are accredited at professional level by the and, through the Seoul Accord, is recognised in other countries.

The Marketing major is accredited by the (AMI), and students are eligible for credit towards becoming a Certified Practising Marketer (CPM) upon completion.

Program aims

Bachelor of Business and Commerce

The Bachelor of Business and Commerce is a professionally-oriented degree program. The aim of the program is to produce graduates who are equipped to identify, describe, analyse and resolve business problems in both the public and private sectors. Successful completion of the program will equip graduates with the skills and knowledge required to undertake employment in relevant professions.

Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science is an undergraduate qualification consisting of 24 units, taught in English, which normally takes three years of full-time study or part-time equivalent. The program structure requires successful completion of a twelve or eight unit major in a chosen discipline, four units of foundation study courses and either a second major or elective courses. The Bachelor of Science is located at Level 7 of the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Program objectives

On successful completion of the Bachelor of Business and Commerce and Bachelor of Science double degree, graduates need to meet the program objectives of both disciplines.

Bachelor of Business and Commerce

• synthesise business knowledge, disciplinary concepts, theories, principles and processes

Bachelor of Science

• have broad and coherent knowledge and skills, with a level of depth in one or more chosen disciplines of science suitable for professional work and/or further study

• apply a coherent set of theoretical and technical skills to demonstrate understanding of the principles underlying one or more chosen disciplines

• have well-developed cognitive, technical and communication skills to select and apply methods and technologies to critically analyse, consolidate and evaluate information in the solution of unpredictable and complex problems

• be capable of working collaboratively with others to construct and implement problem-solving paradigms to address relevant issues

• be able to demonstrate autonomy, well directed judgement and responsibility in contexts that require an awareness of the social, moral and legal responsibilities of professional scientists

Australian Qualifications Framework

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a single national, comprehensive system of qualifications offered by higher education institutions (including universities), vocational education and training institutions and secondary schools. Each AQF qualification has a set of descriptors which define the type and complexity of knowledge, skills and application of knowledge and skills that a graduate who has been awarded that qualification has attained, and the typical volume of learning associated with that qualification type.

Program completion requirements

Credit

Candidates for admission to the Bachelor of Business and Commerce and Bachelor of Science double degree may be eligible for up to 16 units of credit based on successful completion of relevant, equivalent undergraduate study from a recognised university.

Note: where credit is granted, maximum and minimum duration will be adjusted in the same proportion as credit, for example, where the maximum of 16 units of credit is approved, maximum time will be 4.5 years and minimum time will be four semesters.
