Program aims

Students will acquire the ability to research independently, apply theory and develop academic expertise in their chosen fields. The program will extend students' appreciation of the cultural contributions offered by the creative arts to local and regional communities in Australia. The program accommodates supervisory focus across discipline specialisations including: Film, Television & Radio, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing.

The program aims to produce graduates who:

• Possess advanced knowledge and skills specific to their focus discipline or individual creative practice

• Can research independently, apply theory and develop academic expertise in their chosen fields

• Are well positioned to contribute to ongoing cultural growth and knowledge through engagement with the arts in local and regional communities throughout Australia

• Think critically, creatively and ethically with cultural awareness when identifying and solving problems

• Are responsible and accountable for their ongoing learning, both independently and in collaboration with others, within a range of professional contexts.

Program objectives

On successful completion of the program, students should be able to:

• Use broad and coherent body of knowledge, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts in one or more disciplines as a basis for independent lifelong learning

• Independently evaluate and apply methods, concepts, techniques and theories in the design and realisation of creative arts projects in a broad range of professional contexts

• Display an advanced level of initiative and appraisal in planning and implementing professional practical outcomes and/or scholarship

• Utilise advanced cognitive and creative skills to conduct focused research by identifying and solving problems with intellectual independence

• Exercise effective communication skills to present clear, coherent and innovative exposition of knowledge and ideas using an appropriate range of modes and techniques.

Australian Qualifications Framework

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a single national, comprehensive system of qualifications offered by higher education institutions (including universities), vocational education and training institutions and secondary schools. Each AQF qualification has a set of descriptors which define the type and complexity of knowledge, skills and application of knowledge and skills that a graduate who has been awarded that qualification has attained, and the typical volume of learning associated with that qualification type.

This program is at AQF Qualification Level 08. Graduates at this level will have advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and/or further learning.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

• Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree, or equivalent in Creative Arts or a related discipline, with a minimum Grade Point Average of 5.0.

• English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 2.

Applicants are advised to also note the following:

• Applicants will be required to write a proposal outlining the initial direction of their Honours research (750 words).

• Students will also be required to have an interview with relevant supervisor/s (telephone or face-to-face).

Some consideration for significant professional practice can be given to applicants at the discretion of the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts. Specific entry requirements can be:

• credit level (grade point average of 5.0/7 ) in the entire program and permission of the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts

• a grade point average of 5/7 across all levels in the proposed Major 精东传媒app

• a grade point average of 5.2/7 in the third level of the program (i.e. Major and Option), including an 'A' or better level pass in at least one course of the Major

• grades of 'A' or High Distinction in all courses in the third-level of the Major

• for a candidate with equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience by special permission of the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts.

Commonwealth supported place

Program structure

The Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) consists of a minimum of 4 courses (comprising 8 units). The program can be undertaken full-time in one academic year, or part-time over two years. Part-time enrolment will normally be course-work in year one, and dissertation project in year two.
