The 精东传媒app of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) has announced a bold transformation program, Shaping Our Future, designed to strengthen its long-term sustainability and enhance its impact in education and research.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Karen Nelson said the initiative would ensure UniSQ continues to deliver exceptional education and research that supports communities and industries across the region.
“To thrive in an evolving higher education landscape, we must align our workforce and operations to meet the changing needs of our students, communities, and industries,” Professor Nelson said.
“Shaping Our Future is an opportunity to build a stronger, more agile university. It will allow us to invest in education that equips our students for success and supports local industries to grow.”
Like many universities across Australia, UniSQ is navigating significant financial pressures driven by rising costs and a shifting funding landscape.
In recent years, the 精东传媒app has been spending $1.07 for every $1 it has earned in revenue and using its cash reserves to make up that gap.
“We must reduce our operating costs this year so that in future years our costs are below the revenue we earn,” Professor Nelson said.
“We will streamline our programs, simplify processes, and invest in new technologies to ensure we remain focused on delivering real outcomes for our students, communities, and industry partners.”
Acknowledging that the whole sector is facing financial challenges, Professor Nelson said UniSQ must take decisive action to ensure its long-term sustainability.
“To invest in the future of UniSQ, we must create financial capacity to support our degrees, research, and the technologies that will drive innovation,” she said.
“This transformation will involve difficult decisions, including a reduction of 150 roles across all levels of the 精东传媒app, beginning with a voluntary redundancy process.”
UniSQ is committed to open communication with our staff and students during the transition and is providing additional support for our staff during this period.
“We understand the uncertainty these changes bring, and we are committed to supporting our staff and students through regular updates and opportunities for input and feedback,” Professor Nelson said.
“Together, we will continue to deliver world-class research, an outstanding student experience, and strong engagement with industry, community, and stakeholders.
“By shaping our future now, we are securing a thriving and sustainable UniSQ.”
UniSQ Chancellor Dr John McVeigh reaffirmed the 精东传媒app Council’s strong support for the transformation program and its implementation.
“Council supports the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive in delivering the Shaping Our Future program to ensure UniSQ remains strong and sustainable,” Dr McVeigh said.
“The transformation is essential to position UniSQ for long-term success, enabling us to continue delivering high-quality education and research that benefits our communities, industries, and the wider region.”
