The Impacts of Cultural Burning on Plant and Fungal Communities
Working with Traditional Owners and Balonne Shire Council, the Masters of Research Project will investigate the impacts of cultural burning practices on invasive weed species, native species and soil fungi with the intention of undertaking a preliminary assessment of application of cultural burning to control weed species and restore ecological health in the council area. Through the project you will develop skills in research project management, field and laboratory research techniques and public and academic communication. The project will involve both field work (and associated travel) in addition to laboratory analysis.
Fire Ecology Masters by Research Scholarship
To be eligible applicants must:
• have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in a discipline related to the project (e.g. ecology, biology, environmental science or agricultural science;
• be either an Australian citizen or permanent resident
• be eligible to be enrolled, full-time on-campus in a Masters by Research program;
• not be in receipt of similar funding from the Australian Government.
• be native English speakers and/or meet UniSQ’s English Language Requirements
• commence the PhD in 2022.
Applicants must:
• Have a strong academic record and hold a qualification equal to an Australian undergraduate or postgraduate degree;
• Have completed study and/or other experience in the topic discipline
• Be enthusiastic and highly motivated;
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
