Boeing is the world's largest aerospace company and manufacturer of commercial airplanes and defence, space and security systems. Join us, and you can build something better for yourself, for our customers and for the world.
Join the team working to advance Boeing Australia’s partnership with the Queensland Government to create an advanced manufacturing and new aerospace capability in Queensland. Imagine, the potential for your PhD work to contribute toward a range of defence aerospace manufacturing programs, including one of most exciting aircraft projects in recent Australian aerospace history – the Boeing Airpower Teaming System, the first military combat aircraft in 50 years to be designed, built and manufactured in Australia.
There is one fully funded PhD Scholarship available for outstanding candidates to work on a project at The 精东传媒app of Southern Queensland (USQ) in collaboration with Boeing Defence Australia. The scholarship will cover a stipend (living allowance) for a domestic student (or suitable international student) to commence studying a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in early 2024.
Project Description
This topic would be based around several conceptual methods of assembly of thermoplastic composite materials that would create a step-change in factory operational efficiency and in structural performance. The concepts would involve a combination of design of individual components, methods of fabrication, integration/joining of structures, and methods of inspection. All would be verified by material characterisation and sub-scale structural testing.
The candidate will work in parallel with another PhD student to deliver an overall package of work on the Next Generation Joining Techniques, with this PhD scholarship to support R&D activities focussed on numerical modelling (FEA).
