Once you've successfully completed the Bachelor of Cyber Security you can apply to study the Master of Cyber Security, Master of Information Systems, Master of Information Technology or the Master of Research.

Career outcomes

  • You’ll graduate with hands-on experience and technical certification to start your cyber security career across various industries, including finance, healthcare, government, and technology, providing diverse opportunities for specialisation and career growth.
  • Potential roles include (but are not limited to) cyber security engineer, ethical hacker, security consultant, incident responder, security architect, forensic computer analyst, security software developer, cryptographer, and cyber security analyst.

Entry requirements

  • Have achieved a minimum ATAR of 64.00, or equivalent.
  • Applicants are required to have a minimum of 5 years' work experience, or part-time equivalent, from a defence, health, sciences, social sciences or creative arts background, through submission of a resume. 
  • Applicants will need to:
    • attend an interview with staff from the School of Mathematics, Physics and Computing to determine suitability for entry,
    • supply a letter of support of a paid internship from an employer to be eligible for admission to this degree (locating a paid internship in cyber security is the responsibility of the applicant).

Notes

The internship for this degree requires a baseline security clearance. We recommend researching the eligibility criteria, application times, and costs before applying. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, most employers require this clearance, which can only be obtained during employment. 

Applicants may be eligible for recognition of prior learning for their work experience which may count towards the Professional Practice major element of the degree. Claims for recognition of prior learning should be submitted before or at the time of application.  

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

* Your eligibility for recognition of prior learning, based on 5 years' work experience from a defence, health, sciences, social sciences, or creative arts background, provides up to 8 units of credit in the Professional Practice major. If you have 5 years of work experience from any discipline background but are unable to satisfy 8 units of credit for the Professional Practice major, there are a range of elective courses available to assist in the completion of this element of the degree.

Professional experience/placements

As part of this degree, you’ll gain industry experience during a 12-month paid internship. You will need to arrange the paid internship position yourself and will need to provide UniSQ with evidence of a baseline security clearance prior to commencing the internship.
