Why study engineering management?

An engineering degree opens up many windows of opportunity for various industries where you can make a difference. A civil engineering degree involves the planning, design, and management of the construction of structures, from transport systems to bridges, tunnels or buildings.

A Master of Professional Engineering (Engineering Management & Enterprise) will help you broaden your career options after completing a three or four-year engineering degree, so you can pursue a career in engineering management or launch your own start-up. A Master of Research will give you an opportunity to make a lasting impact in your chosen research area.

What can I do with an engineering management degree?

At UniSQ, our engineering management courses will prepare you for the next step in your engineering career. If you have already completed an Australian three or four-year bachelor degree in engineering in the relevant specialisation, or a four-year bachelor degree in engineering in a non-related specialisation or equivalent, you will be eligible to apply for a Master of Professional Engineering (Engineering Management & Enterprise).

A Master of Professional Engineering will teach you how to lead complex engineering projects and teams and develop the necessary entrepreneurial skills to drive your business ventures. You will have the opportunity to apply your formal knowledge to a real-world problem by completing a research project and dissertation.

With your specialised skills in engineering management, research, innovation and entrepreneurship you will be able to pursue careers in management within the field of engineering or launch your own start-up.

What does an engineering manager do?

An engineering manager is responsible for overseeing their team's work to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. They mentor and coach their team members, manage conflicts and resolve problems.

An engineering manager must be able to lead and motivate their team, communicate the project’s vision, and inspire the team to work together to bring the vision to reality. Engineering managers must also make tough decisions, solve problems quickly, and handle stress well.

What are the pathways to entry?

To apply for the Master of Professional Engineering (Engineering Management & Enterprise), you must have completed an Australian three or four-year Bachelor degree in engineering in the relevant specialisation or equivalent, or a four-year Bachelor in engineering in a non-related specialisation or equivalent.

A Master of Research requires completing a 3-year degree at an Australian university or equivalent with a GPA of 5.0/7.0 or above or an equivalent score in a relevant discipline. Acceptance will be subject to the endorsement of a UniSQ supervisor.

A Bachelor honours degree with First Class Honours or Second Class Honours, an Australian university Master's degree or other qualifications and experience equivalent to First or Second class Honours will qualify you for a PhD
