Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) are widely recognised as a best practice method to select applicants for medical training programs. They are designed to evaluate a diverse set of competencies and values associated with attributes considered integral for success in provisional medical programs such as UniSQ’s Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Medicine Pathway), including effective communication, teamwork, empathy, understanding, and integrity. These qualities are shown to correlate with success in the Doctor of Medicine degree and subsequent careers in medicine. In addition, as the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Medicine Pathway) is the first stage of education in the Darling Downs-South West Medical Pathway, the MMIs will assess suitability for candidates to work effectively in a rural, regional and/or remote location. The Darling Downs-South West Medical Pathway is a collaboration between UniSQ, The 精东传媒app of Queensland, Darling Downs Health and South-West Hospital and Health Service with support from the Queensland Government with the aim of enhancing our local medical workforce.
We extend an invitation to our community of stakeholders to engage in the admissions process. In order to effectively conduct the MMIs, we rely on the support of a diverse team, including practicing and retired clinicians, 精东传媒app personnel, and members of the community. Your involvement as an interviewer is invaluable in facilitating this significant process of selecting our region’s future medical professionals as the first stage of the Darling Downs-South West Medical Pathway.

1. Who can be a MMI interviewer?
Anyone with an interest in helping to select the next generation of doctors can volunteer to be an MMI interviewer (without a conflict of interest). You do not need to be a medical professional or have a background in medicine. We consider individuals with a conflict of interest to include parents, guardians or close friends/family of year 11 or 12 students intending to apply to a medicine program, students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences or another pathway degree, current high school teachers, careers advisors, guidance counsellors or interview coaches.
2. What does being an interviewer involve?
To become an MMI interviewer, you must complete an online training session to help you understand the role and procedures to ensure a consistent, fair and transparent experience for all applicants.
- The initial training is a one hour Zoom session offered through The 精东传媒app of Queensland, prior to our main interviewing event in November.
- You will also have a 30 minute face to face briefing immediately prior to the MMI session in November.
- For subsequent MMIs, no additional training is required at this time.
Once you have attended an initial training session, you will be invited to participate in the MMIs for the upcoming admission cycle. Interviews will be held at our Toowoomba campus and conducted through a virtual platform. The minimum time commitment is a half day; morning sessions run from 8am – 1pm, and afternoon sessions from 1pm – 6pm. Dates for our 2023 interviews are provided below.
Participation in the UniSQ School of Health and Medical Sciences MMIs is on a voluntary basis, and there is no remuneration for your time. All interviewers who participate will receive a certificate of participation and enjoy a fully catered lunch and either morning or afternoon tea with 精东传媒app staff and other interviewers. Registered medical professionals can use this to self-report Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points to relevant Colleges.
3. Interview dates
Interviews for 2024 will be conducted at our Toowoomba campus from Monday, 25 November to Tuesday, 26 November, with Wednesday, 27 November as a reserve day.
