Trade to Teach Internship Program
Applications for the 2025 intake are now closed.
The Queensland Government Internship Program can help you along the way by providing:
- financial support1 while you study a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) specialising in Design and Technology full-time
- a paid internship teaching position2 with support in the classroom to enable you to gain professional experience
- permanent employment as an ITD teacher in a secondary Queensland state school following graduation and provisional registration with the .

1 Financial support is provided in the first year through a $20,000 (taxed) scholarship and for the remainder of the program through paid full-time internship employment in a school.
2 Internship employment consists of 50% internship within a school and 50% study. The teaching qualification must be completed in a maximum of four years.

Bachelor of Education (Secondary) program information
as a teaching area fits within the learning area of Technologies. Once employed, students would be expected to teach Years 7 – 10 Design and Technologies and Years 11 and 12 Design, and up to two of the related Applied Senior Syllabuses, including Engineering, , , Fashion, , , or dependent on their relevant industry experience.
Compulsory prior study for Trade to Teach Applicants only: Design or Engineering in Years 11 and 12 OR other certificate course in this area OR a trade qualification with relevant industry experience.
Technology has been developed through working and building with materials and tools and has been an integral part of society for as long as humans have had the desire to improve their quality of life.
