Synopsis
Agricultural Engineering is a discipline which is strongly oriented to the practical needs of all involved in agriculture. Students need to understand the practical application of theories and develop skills in the identification and solution of problems. This course presents a coordinated set of activities which relate to other Agricultural Engineering courses and will reinforce and develop an understanding of their content and their application to real world situations.
This course contains a mandatory residential school.
Objectives
The course objectives define the student learning outcomes for a course. On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- demonstrate a body of skills, including practical, written, oral communication and computer skills;
- demonstrate a knowledge of materials, devices and techniques, with an appreciation of safety codes and practices and specific equipment;
- understand some of the limitations of theory through the solution of practical problems;
- demonstrate skills in the observation, interpretation and assessment of experimental phenomena related to agricultural engineering work;
- demonstrate improved group interaction skills, a greater interest in engineering and an appreciation of commercial reality in modern agriculture;
- demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to complete practical work with the appropriate equipment;
- work effectively as a member and/or leader of a team, participating in completing tasks, and supporting others in achievement of team goals;
- undertake critical self-review and performance evaluation against course objectives as a primary means of tracking personal development needs and achievements.

Attendance requirements:
Students must attend the mandatory residential school. It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such as lectures, tutorials, laboratories and practical work) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration. -
Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
To satisfactorily complete each assessment item students must achieve a mark of 1 out of 1 for that assessment item. -

Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
To be assured of receiving a passing grade students must attend and participate in the mandatory residential school and achieve a mark of 1 out of 1 for each assessment item. -
Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
As P is the only passing grade available for this course, all students who are qualified for a passing grade, under the requirements in 4 above, will be given a grade of P. Other students will be given either a Failing grade or an Incomplete grade. -
