Rationale

Advanced Nurse Practice standards require an extended knowledge of pharmacology and pharmacokinetics that will correlate with appropriate diagnostic and assessment data for critical analysis of a client’s health status. Professional efficacy and clinical proficiency requires knowledge and integration of both pharmacological & non-pharmacological treatment interventions that are patient focussed and responsive to health status.

Synopsis

It is important that registered nurses working in isolated and independent clinical practice contexts understand the pharmacokinetics and pharmacological applications of the approved scheduled medications that they are authorised to obtain, supply and administer. This course will provide a foundation for the registered nurse, within their context of practice and in accordance with State and Territory legislation within Australia that is supported by the relevant Drug Therapy Protocol or Chief Health Officer Standing Orders and Health Services Permits, to safely and competently obtain, supply and administer scheduled medication.
