Pre-requisite: Students must be enrolled in one of the following Programs: BCAH or MARA or MSTA

Rationale

BCA8003 allows students to design and undertake specific singular discipline study or a hybrid project based on their research interests within practice-led or theoretical debates. This course allows the student researcher to critically reflect on the positioning of their creative works within established theoretical and practical models providing a context for understanding for the student’s creative field of expertise.

Synopsis

Students are able to undertake advanced research, both practical and theoretical, within either a practice-led (developing skills and understanding of practice through intensive studio work on an individual project) or theoretical (developing conceptual skills and understanding of research through intensive work on an individual project based on theoretical outcomes) pathway. Both options are directly related to, and compliment the research undertaken in HMT4001 Honours Dissertation A.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. explore a highly individual and developed range of professional/studio research skills and/or theoretical research methodologies situated in the creative arts;
  2. exercise critical, creative thinking and judgment to identify and solve intellectual problems independently;
  3. demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the historical, ideological, critical and ethical perspectives/discourses in the creative arts, in traditional, hybrid and contemporary cultural and social contexts;
  4. communicate through a clear presentation and articulation of complex knowledge and ideas.
