Rationale

This course is designed to be a self-颅directed piece of independent work which brings together the knowledge and skills students have acquired from the other courses in the information technology management major. Emphasis is placed on student's ability to demonstrate the application of project management, teamwork and interpersonal communication knowledge and skills in the development of a business information systems team project.

Synopsis

Students are given as much freedom as possible in the choice of a project. A student may propose a project or undertake a project nominated by the examiner. A project must be completed by a student as a team project. All projects will complement the other courses in the information technology management major by practically integrating them into a major project. Each student will demonstrate a higher level of understanding towards project management through development of requirements definition, and involvement in project planning, and control. Each student will also need to demonstrate a capacity to work successfully in a team project , and advanced written and verbal communication skills in a team project.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. apply the appropriate planning and problem-solving skills required for the management of a business information systems project
  2. demonstrate advanced written and oral communication skills by preparing and presenting professional documentation that is tailored to a business audience
  3. identify and apply technical processes and skills required for the successful completion of a business information systems project
  4. demonstrate the capacity for critical reflection about the process of planning and implementing the project including their own and/or others鈥� contributions to this process
  5. demonstrate the capacity to work successfully with others as part of a team to plan and deliver a project
  6. demonstrate understanding of professionalism and professional ethics in Information Systems.

    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.
