Rationale

Students need to make use of current and future trends in Business Networks and the Cloud which have become critical infrastructure in the digital economy. Students must have a good working knowledge of current and emerging Business Networks and the Cloud concepts such as contemporary network standards and protocols, local area networks and wide area networks, wired and wireless networks, Internet, cloud computing and networked applications. Students need the knowledge and skills required to critically evaluate Business Networks and the Cloud technologies and their effective application in organisations to solve real world problems. This course provides the foundation knowledge and skills essential for effectively managing network infrastructure.

Synopsis

This course covers some key issues for networks and management in the field of data communications and Business Networks and the Cloud, under three broad headings: enterprise digital infrastructure, using data communications and Business Networks and the Cloud for competitive gain, and the role of management in Business Networks and the Cloud planning. Students will gain knowledge of contemporary networking infrastructure including networking standards and protocols, networking architectures, business applications and security. Students will identify and evaluate networking infrastructure of existing organisations. Students will specify how the existing networking infrastructure can be improved and what would be ensuing business benefits. Students will also consider how the existing networking infrastructure can accommodate or be adapted for new and emerging technology trends. Students will be assessed in the assignments on their knowledge of contemporary networking infrastructure in organisations and their ability to develop network designs that address organisational challenges and opportunities.
