Rationale
This course is designed to be a self-颅directed piece of independent work which brings together the knowledge and skills students have acquired from the other courses in the Master of Information Systems. Emphasis is placed on a student's ability to demonstrate the application of project management, teamwork and interpersonal communication knowledge and skills in the development of a business information systems team project.
Synopsis
Students are given as much freedom as possible in the choice of a project. A student may propose a project or undertake a project nominated by the examiner. A project must be completed by a student as a team project. All projects will complement the other courses in the information technology management major by practically integrating them into a major project. Each student will demonstrate a higher level of understanding towards project management through development of requirements definition, and involvement in project planning, and control. Each student will also demonstrate a capacity to work successfully in a team project and advanced written and verbal communication skills in a team project.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course students should be able to:
- apply the appropriate planning and problem-solving skills required for the management of a business information systems project;
- demonstrate advanced written and oral communication skills by preparing and presenting professional documentation that is tailored to a business audience;
- identify and apply technical processes and skills required for the successful completion of a business information systems project;
- demonstrate the capacity for critical reflection about the process of planning and implementing the project including their own and/or others' contributions to this process;
- demonstrate the capacity to work successfully with others as part of a team to plan and deliver a project.
