Rationale

Web publishing is a large and important industry. It can be considered as part of the computing or publishing industry, and it has important implications in other areas. USQ graduates in computing, and many other disciplines, need expertise in this area. This course will provide them with skills in document creation, publishing, and the more technical aspects of web publishing. The course will emphasise the generation of web materials in accordance with relevant standards and recommendations.

Synopsis

This course conveys the essential skills and knowledge required to create and maintain high quality web documents. The course will cover document design and preparation, as well as the more technical issues of web-publishing such as client-side scripting and input validation. Program material may only be available via the web. Practical classes will be provided for internal students. While the course will use Javascript as the programming language, prior experience with it is not required. However, both a general understanding of and basic experience with programming in a high level language is essential. Limited experience with using Linux/Unix is also recommended.

Objectives

On completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. produce accessible, inclusive and effective web site designs;
  2. implement web pages using industry standard markup languages;
  3. choose and apply appropriate formats to display multimedia content in web sites;
  4. develop dynamic web content through form elements and client-side scripting;
  5. summarise and explain key aspects of the technical foundations of the World Wide Web.

However, it is the students' responsibility to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.

  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    Due to COVID-19 the requirements for S2 2020 are:
    To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks for that item.

    Requirements after S2 2020:
    To complete each of the assessment items satisfactorily, students must obtain at least 50% of the marks available for each assessment item.

  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    Students should refer to the Assessment Procedure (point 4.2.4).

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    Due to COVID-19 the requirements for S2 2020 are:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.

    Requirements after S2 2020:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must obtain at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course (i.e. the Primary Hurdle), and have satisfied the Secondary Hurdle (Supervised), i.e. the end of semester examination by achieving at least 40% of the weighted marks available for that assessment item.

    Supplementary assessment may be offered where a student has undertaken all of the required summative assessment items and has passed the Primary Hurdle but failed to satisfy the Secondary Hurdle (Supervised), or has satisfied the Secondary Hurdle (Supervised) but failed to achieve a passing Final Grade by 5% or less of the total weighted Marks.

    To be awarded a passing grade for a supplementary assessment item (if applicable), a student must achieve at least 50% of the available marks for the supplementary assessment item as per the Assessment Procedure (point 4.4.2).

  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.

  6. Examination information:

    An Open Examination is one in which candidates may have access to any printed or written material and a calculator during the examination.

    Requirements after S2 2020:
    In a Closed Examination, candidates are allowed to bring only writing and drawing instruments into the examination.

Assessment notes

  1. Students must familiarise themselves with the USQ Assessment Procedures (.

  2. Students must retain a copy of each item submitted for assessment. This must be produced within 24 hours if required by the Examiner.

  3. In accordance with 精东传媒app policy, the Examiner may grant an extension of the due date of an assignment in extenuating circumstances.

  4. Students are responsible for authenticating submitted assignments. This will involve gathering evidence that the submitted assessment is the student's own work. The evidence will at least include a journal of work, and pre-submission seven days prior and two days prior to the assignment deadline. Lack of authentication will be considered plagiarism.
