Rationale
As Information Communication Technologies (ICT) pervade our society there is a growing need for educational personnel to have contemporary skills and knowledge in the use, creation, evaluation and management of a range of ICT resources. Learning and teaching in the 21st Century requires educators to be proficient in creating learning opportunities that situate ICT as integral to the curriculum, teaching and learning experiences of students. For educators to be able to make informed pedagogical decisions with respect to the use of ICT for teaching and learning they must understand how students learn with ICT and the learning affordances ICT provide.
Synopsis
Students in EDU5112 Transforming Learning with ICT will engage with the design and creation of exciting, intellectually challenging and authentic learning environments in which ICT changes not only what students learn but also how they learn, as we move forward in the 21st century. Within a framework of contemporary learning theories, participants in this course will examine how ICT might be used to both enhance and transform learning.
Objectives
The course objectives define the student learning outcomes for a course. The assessment item(s) that may be used to assess student achievement of an objective are shown in parenthesis. On successful completion of this course students should be able to:
- outline the influence on curriculum and pedagogy of historical and current international and national policies and initiatives relevant to the use of ICT in diverse learning and teaching contexts (All Assignments);
- describe, discuss and apply teaching and learning theories and frameworks that inform ICT pedagogies (All Assignments);
- discuss and reflect upon the role of ICT in the curriculum, learning and teaching to enhance and transform what and how students learn (All Assignments);
- design and evaluate worthwhile student learning experiences in which ICT are integral to the curriculum, teaching and learning (All Assignments);
- demonstrate competence in and appropriate use of language and literacy, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and bibliographic referencing (All Assignments).
