Other requisites
Students are required to undertake a supervised 25 hour Vocational Education and Training placement in an approved VET setting. Students will therefore need to have acquired or be working towards the attainment of appropriate levels of vocational competence and qualifications in the occupational field and vocational subject area in which they will be teaching/training and will need to demonstrate competency in delivery of instruction to individuals and groups.

State law in Queensland (Australia) requires that all adults working/undertaking Professional Experience practica/researching with children under the age of 18, in the state of Queensland must hold a valid Blue Card OR Exemption Card
If undertaking placement outside of Queensland you must ensure that all relevant checks are completed and evidence of this is provided to the Professional Experience Team
Rationale
Competency-based education, training and assessment underpin Australia's national system of vocational education and training. Therefore, students wishing to deliver education and training leading to nationally recognised vocational qualifications must have the required knowledge, understanding and demonstrated competence in the application of competency-based training and assessment methodologies. They must also have the ability to design training programs based on National Training Packages to meet the particular needs of a variety of learners, clients and other stakeholders in school, industry and community education and training settings.
Synopsis
This course aims to enable teachers and trainers in post-compulsory vocational education programs and in industry workplace training to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in the design, development, implementation, assessment and evaluation of competency-based programs that lead to nationally recognised vocational qualifications in Australia's national VET system. Therefore, in addition to development of requisite academic and specialist knowledge, understandings, attributes and capabilities required for successful tertiary study at Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 7, students are required to demonstrate competence equivalent to the minimum industry standard for delivery and assessment of nationally recognised vocational training. Successful completion of this course requires learners to demonstrate competencies 'on the job' via a mandatory 25 hour practical Vocational Education and Training (VET) professional experience in an Australian VET context.
Students who successfully complete this course may choose to apply for recognition for the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) qualification, which will incur a nominal administration fee payable by the student to the registered training provider. To be eligible for the full TAE40116 qualification, students must have completed both EDV3500 and EDV3551 or EDV3500 and TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills.
Objectives
The course objectives define the student learning outcomes for a course. The assessment item(s) that may be used to assess student achievement of an objective are shown in parenthesis. On successful completion of this course students should be able to:
- demonstrate a sound understanding of competency-based approaches to the design, delivery and assessment of vocational education and training programs (All Assignments ) (APST 2.1, 5.1);
- demonstrate a sound understanding of the national context of vocational education and training including legislative, regulatory, policy and quality frameworks (Assignment 1) (APST 7.2);
- design competency-based programs to meet identified training/learning needs of individuals and groups of VET learners and industry/workplace requirements (Assignments 2 and 3) (APST 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.2);
- establish and maintain safe and positive adult learning environments that meet the needs of diverse VET learners in a range of settings (Assignments 1 and 4) (APST 1.2, 3.1, 4.1, 4.2, 4.4);
- deliver relevant, responsive, flexible and learner-centred training that supports learners to meet their learning objectives and meets industry standards (Assignments 1 and 4) (APST 3.3, 3.4, 3.5);
- demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills in the implementation of competency-based assessment principles and practices including recognition of prior learning/current competence and assessment validation processes (All assignments) (APST 3.6, 5.1-5.5);
- use appropriate personal, professional, vocational, digital and academic literacies (All Assignments).

However, it is the students' responsibility to study all material provided to them including discussion fora scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration. -
Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks. and; for the professional experience, complete all assessment requirements to a satisfactory standard. -

Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course and must satisfactorily complete the sector-based professional experience including the Evidence Portfolio for Assignment 4. -
Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course. -
