Rationale
This course will enable students to extend their evidence-based skills through the completion of a research project and preparation of a minor thesis. The project will include completing data analysis, synthesising of results and the preparation of documentation to communicate findings to other professionals.
Synopsis
This is the second of two project courses involving the production of a written thesis or professional document based on an individual piece of research that contributes to the currently available body of research in the chosen area. In this second course, students will continue working on their research project and submit their final thesis or professional document. Some students taking this course in the online mode, depending on their negotiated studies/assessment, may have attendance requirements.
Objectives
On completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking surrounding the chosen research topic and issues relevant to the area of research
- Demonstrate competence in each component of research procedures including: identifying research problems, formulating hypotheses, defining variables, collecting data, analysing data using appropriate quantitative or qualitative techniques, interpreting data, and drawing conclusions
- Competently present the literature review, methodology, results, and discussion in the format of a written thesis or professional document.

Attendance requirements:
There are no scheduled classes. This is independent thesis work under guidance of a supervisor. It is the students' responsibility to participate appropriately in all activities guided by the supervisor , and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration. Due to the nature of a project or research, some students may have attendance requirements which will be negotiated with their supervisor. -
Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks for that item. -

To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course. -

Reliable access to the internet is a requirement of this course as the course contains elements that are managed electronically via USQ 精东传媒appDesk. In order to avoid internet issues, on-campus students should access the student computer laboratories to complete assignment work. External students who knowingly do not have reliable access to the internet should actively seek alternative internet access (e.g., Internet cafes, local libraries, or work places) for assessment submission and electronic assessment attempts. External students are able to use the on-campus student computer laboratories once access has been enabled. To be granted access, external students need to contact ICT and ask to have a student account enabled so that they can work on-campus.
