Rationale

Project completion is often defined by successful delivery of all aspects of the project. The project manager must be able to complete project delivery within the budget, scope, time, and legal boundaries. This course will provide the students with knowledge and skills required for successful project delivery which include project management methodologies, delivery methods, procurement and contract management.

Synopsis

This course examines the critical stages and methods related to project delivery. It will examine various aspects of the procurement process which is vital to harness internal and external resources for successful project completion. Contract management and other legal aspects of project management will also be covered in detail.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. examine and critically reflect on disciplinary and ethical principles, theories and concepts related to project delivery;
  2. apply knowledge and skills to investigate, resolve and make decisions about the procurement and delivery of diverse projects;
  3. analyse, evaluate and synthesise research to investigate tools and techniques for effective procurement and delivery of diverse projects;
  4. plan and execute appropriate procurement and delivery processes for diverse projects;
  5. use technical and communication skills to justify professional decisions to appropriate audiences.

    On-campus: It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such as lectures, tutorials, laboratories and practical work) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration. Courses delivered at Springfield campus are run in block intensive mode as two 2-day workshops during the semester, and NOT as weekly lectures. Teaching blocks will include weekdays and weekend days.   2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks. (Depending upon the requirements in Statement 4 below, students may not have to satisfactorily complete each assessment item to receive a passing grade in this course.)

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.

    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.
