Rationale
Paramedic Skills 2 (PMC1202) will strengthen the foundational knowledge and skills gained in Paramedic Skills 1 (PMC1102) to enable students to expand their role as a paramedic. The aim of this course is to develop the student鈥檚 ability to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills to enable them to function as an effective team member while attending a practical placement and as a new graduate.
Synopsis
Students will further develop their knowledge and skill set through being introduced to common practical presentation of medical and traumatic conditions encountered in paramedicine. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical skills, students will be able to assess, develop and implement management regimes for selected conditions from the incident scene to admission to Hospital. Paramedic Skills 2 will allow students to acquire a working knowledge of pharmacology and electrocardiography within paramedicine. Paramedic Skills 2 will enable students to gain experience in the use of ambulance communication equipment.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Integrate theoretical knowledge to practice
- Examine frameworks and concepts associated with clinical reasoning, a systematic approach to assessment and the need to apply best practice paramedicine
- Analyse the need to develop crew resource management and scene control skills when presented with medical and/or traumatic situations
- Explain basic electrocardiography tracings
- Undertake cardiovascular, respiratory and behavioural assessments
- Operate at the level that is suitable for first year practical placement.

To satisfactorily complete each assessment item students must achieve a mark of 1 out of 1 (100%) for that assessment item. -

Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
To be assured of receiving a passing grade students must attend and participate in the mandatory laboratories or practical classes and achieve a mark of 1 out of 1 (100%) for each assessment item. -

As P is the only passing grade available for this course, all students who are qualified for a passing grade will be given a grade of P. Other students will be given either a failing grade or an incomplete grade. -
