Rationale
Paramedic Skills 4 will extend the knowledge and skills students have acquired in Paramedic Skills 1, 2, and 3. Content in this course addresses the knowledge and skills practising paramedics require to be efficient in managing adverse situations and emergencies. Skills acquired in this course are paramount to the achievement of paramedic practice.
Synopsis
The course is designed to offer students a comprehensive educational and skill development experience. A key emphasis of this course is to further expand communication skills to include communicating with people experiencing adverse conditions such as agitation. Paramedic Skills 4 also includes skill development in the area of musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and neurological injuries and emergencies.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course students will have:
- Demonstrate the ability to perform musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and neurological assessments including accurate history taking.
- Examine effective management strategies for individuals with musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and neurological related injuries
- Integrate knowledge, practical skills and problem-solving in the management of individuals with musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and neurological related injuries
- Examine effective communication techniques used with individuals, family members, healthcare professionals and other professionals
- Apply evidence-based practice in the management of individuals with musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and neurological related injuries
- Complete high quality clinical reports and documentation
- Demonstrate the ability to calculate accurate drug dosages

Students must attend the mandatory laboratories or practical classes. It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such as lectures, tutorials, laboratories and practical work) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration. -
Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
To satisfactorily complete each assessment item students must achieve a mark of 1 out of 1 (100%) for that assessment item. -

Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
To be assured of receiving a passing grade students must attend and participate in the mandatory laboratories or practical classes and achieve a mark of 1 out of 1 (100%) for each assessment item. -

As P is the only passing grade available for this course, all students who are qualified for a passing grade will be given a grade of P. Other students will be given either a failing grade or an incomplete grade. -
