Rationale
Paramedic Placement 2 provides students with their second block of four weeks full-time practical experience with the Queensland Ambulance Service. Students will work as the third officer on an emergency ambulance vehicle and will be expected to perform as a functional team member under the instruction of the ambulance crew. Students will be expected to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge and skills as compared to Paramedic Placement 1 (PMC1303) as they will have undertaken further study in the interim period.
Synopsis
The second practical placement of 163 hours provides the students with the opportunity to perform as a functional member of a paramedic team under the supervision of a qualified paramedic. The student should incorporate their increased knowledge and skills by contributing to assessment and management of patients who present with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, as well as the general assessment of other patients.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Evaluate own performance in a practical situation with regard to skills and attitude
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to interact with people from diverse age groups and cultures including team members
- Demonstrate active participate in decision making regarding the assessment and management appropriate to Year 2 student
- Assess and appropriately manage individuals presenting with cardiovascular, respiratory, and behavioural conditions
- Apply evidence-based practice to the manage individuals in an ambulance environment or pre-hospital setting
- Demonstrate ethical and professional behaviour in an ambulance environment.
