Pre-requisite: PSY2105 and have a GPA of 5.0 or above across their psychology courses.
Rationale
As an elective course this course continues the professional preparation program in work integrated learning that students have been developing in previous psychological skills courses. Students will be exposed to a wide range of knowledge and skills which are specific to each WIL experience.
Synopsis
Students will critically apply and further develop the professional skills they have acquired throughout the psychological skills courses. Specifically, work integrated learning will continue via a community/industry/research placement of approximately 100 hours duration.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course students should be able to:
- apply a variety of professional skills that are appropriate to the placement setting;
- critically evaluate how workplace practices are informed by the scientist-practitioner model and psychological theory.
- effectively work in teams and apply professional communication skills when working with clients from diverse backgrounds.;
- provide positive contributions to the goals of the WIL placement.

- To receive the mark for Proficiency, students must attend online placement meeting, complete the required hours of the placement as organised by the university placement coordinator, and obtain a satisfactory standard on the Placement Review.

Attendance requirements:
It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such as online placement meeting, placement and assessment work) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration. Attendance at the placement review workshop is compulsory. -
Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
To satisfactorily complete an assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks. Students do not have to satisfactorily complete each assessment item to be awarded a passing grade in this course. Refer to Statement 4 below for the requirements to receive a passing grade in this course. -

Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
To be assured of receiving a passing grade students must obtain at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course (i.e. the Primary Hurdle), and have satisfied the Secondary Hurdle, i.e Proficiency by achieving a mark of 1 out of 1 for that assessment item. Note that the Conceded Pass is not available in this course due to APAC accreditation.
Supplementary assessment may be offered where a student has undertaken all of the required summative assessment items but failed to achieve a passing Final Grade by 5% or less of the total weighted Marks.
To be awarded a passing grade for a supplementary assessment item (if applicable), a student must achieve at least 50% of the available marks for the supplementary assessment item as per the Assessment Procedure (point 4.4.2). -
Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the weighted aggregate of the marks obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course. -

Electronic submission of assignments is required for this course. All submissions must be made through the Assignment Drop Box located on the USQ study desk for this course, unless directed otherwise by the examiner of the course. Students must retain a copy of each item submitted for assessment. This must be despatched to USQ within 24 hours if requested by the Examiner.

Reliable access to the internet is a requirement of this course as the course contains electronic assessment and submission elements. In order to avoid internet issues, on-campus students should upload their assignments electronically using the same computer laboratories. External students who knowingly do not have reliable access to the internet should actively seek alternative internet access (e.g., Internet cafes, local libraries, or work places) for assessment submission. External students are able to use the on-campus student computer laboratories once access has been enabled. To be granted access, external students need to contact ICT and ask to have a student account enabled so that they can work on-campus.

APA style is the referencing system required in this course. Students should use the 6th or 7th edition of the APA Style Manual to format their assignments. The APA Style to be used is defined by the USQ Library's referencing guide.

Students who do not qualify for a passing grade may, at the discretion of the Examiner, and in consultation with the Moderator and Program Coordinator, be assigned additional work to demonstrate to the Examiner that they have achieved the required standard. It is expected that such students will have been assessed as close to satisfactorily completing the Competency Test.
