Pre-requisite: Successfully completed 1st and 2nd year courses and is presently enrolling in S1, 3rd year studies.

Rationale

This course exists to satisfy the need for some flexibility in several programs to cater for the widely varying interests and chosen specializations of students. It will provide a capstone experience for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (Psychology Extended Major). Participation in this course can assist in preparing students for job searches and/or post-graduate studies.

Synopsis

This course provides the opportunity for a student to pursue an area of study that will complement the other studies in the student's program. Typically the course will consist of specialised investigations extending knowledge and skills in a certain area. The studies could involve, for example, directed readings, extension of the project (where appropriate), or some other approved activity
which would complement the student's studies in the program.

On successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To complete each of the assessment items satisfactorily, students must obtain at least 50% of the marks available for each assessment item.

  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    Students should refer to the Assessment Procedure (point 4.2.4)

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course. Note that the Conceded Pass is not available in this course due to APAC accreditation.

  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the weighted aggregate of the marks (or grades) obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.

Assessment notes

  1. It is the student's responsibility to find secure a project from a list provided by the examiner. The project will be assigned after consultation with project supervisor and approved by the Examiner.

  2. Assessment for the course will be carried out in a manner that is suitable for the chosen project.

  3. Assessment for the course will vary according to the nature of the project undertaken by each student.

  4. The project supervisor will advise the student and the Examiner of the details of the study and/or the assessment details in writing.

  5. When the assessment is completed, the supervisor will advise the Examiner of the grade to be awarded for the project component of the course..
