Rationale

One of the key skills and attributes of clinical psychologists is that they are able to integrate the skills of science and evaluation with clinical skills. This is known as the scientist-practitioner model and this model is embedded in both Australian Psychological Society Code of Ethics and Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) guidelines. The APAC guidelines state that graduates from a clinical training program submit a portfolio of case studies. It is expected that these case studies come directly from the clinical work conducted over the three practica (PSY8130, PSY8140 and PSY8150).

To pass this course students are expected to submit four case studies of clients (may include one group program) which outlines clinical assessment, treatment planning, outcome evaluation, and reflection of clinical processes. Students are expected to evaluate clinical outcomes using qualitative and/or quantitative procedures, and utilise this information in their clinical reflection.

Synopsis

This course is a capstone course where students demonstrate Scientist-Practitioner skills by submitting a folio of four selected case studies of clients they has treated in their practica. Within the folio students demonstrate their research skills by utilising qualitative and/or quantitative data to demonstrate clinical outcomes. Students are also expected to utilise this data to assist with the planning of treatment and also utilise this information to reflect on clinical processes.

1. Attendance requirements:
   
   It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such as lectures and tutorials) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.
   
   
2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
   
   To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks for that item.

4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
   
   To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must obtain at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course (i.e. the Primary Hurdle)
   
   
5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
   
   As P is the only passing grade available for this course, all students who are qualified for a passing grade will be given a grade of P. Other students will be given either a Failing grade or an Incomplete grade.
