Rationale

Students aspiring to professional careers working in the performing arts require fundamental skills and knowledge in body and vocal awareness, workplace health and safety, and the protocols for theatre production.

Synopsis

This course provides a thorough introduction to the processes of practice-led awareness and study along with training and experience in the application of responsible foundational skills in vocal production, movement and risk management assessment.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. apply the introductory skills and knowledge required of a theatre artist [TLO1];
  2. apply a working awareness of efficient vocal production practice and maintenance [TLO3];
  3. use spatial awareness and ensemble skills in a movement context [TLO3];
  4. apply relevant interpretive methods and collaborative processes in formulating a risk management plan [TLO4];
  5. discuss and explain the workplace health and safety protocols required for theatre practice [TLO 5].

Important assessment information

  1. Attendance requirements:
    It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all a ctivities (such as lectures and tutorials) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.
    Students must attend and complete the requirements of the Workplace Health and Safety training program for this course where required.

  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks for that item.

  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.

    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks obtained for each of the summative items for the course.
