Rationale

TPP7122 provides students from diverse backgrounds with an introduction to the culture and practices of a contemporary university community. The course focuses on developing the attributes, concepts, knowledge and skills required to engage effectively with university systems, discourses, policies and processes, to understand and self-manage learning in a university context and to pursue lifelong learning and career adaptability.

Synopsis

Students will investigate their role and place as learners transitioning into university study and progressing towards their career goals. They will build an evidentiary-based portfolio demonstrating their engagement and learning within multiple higher education contexts. Learners will become acculturated to the higher education environment through the development of knowledge, skills and strategies that underpin academic success. Through participation in practical, authentic activities relevant to beginning university study, students will investigate and plan for career adaptability and lifelong learning, and undertake tasks related to academic self-management.

Objectives

On successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Describe the identity and role of a student in the contemporary university environment.
  2. Engage with university systems, policies, processes and practices relevant to first year study.
  3. Apply lifelong learning strategies related to academic success at a university and in career related contexts.
