Rationale

Students entering university through a tertiary pathway or enabling program and who wish to pursue studies in the fields of psychology or counselling will benefit from a course intended to introduce them to the career pathways available in these fields. Many students perceive the fields of psychology and counselling a popular career pathway however they know little about the differences between the two, what is required to become qualified, theories used or the career outcomes that exist. This course will introduce the students to the career options within these fields, what differences exist between counselling and psychology, some key theories that are applied in practice and their applications.

The skills learnt throughout this course will build upon and supplement the knowledge the student has gained through their study of TPP7122 精东传媒app Management and TPP7123 Communicating at 精东传媒app B. It will also better prepare them for making a choice in relation to future tertiary studies and give them an informed view of what the study of psychology and counselling entails.

Module based study will guide students through an introduction to counselling and psychology careers, the differences that exist between the two, some of the theories that are used within the fields and how they are applied in context.
