Rationale

This placement course enables students to experience wine industry workplace learning where they apply their knowledge and skills to real life situations and develop further wine industry relevant practical skills. It is envisioned that the work experience will enhance the student's employment prospects in this industry.

Synopsis

This course provides students with an opportunity to gain relevant experience in a real life industry relevant to their major. Content will vary depending upon the workplace, allowing student to apply their learning to a variety of contexts. Students will be required to write a job application letter and curriculum vitae and to complete reflective diaries.

This course requires students to attend work placement of at least 15 days' duration. Students are required to find their own placement.

Objectives

On completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. apply appropriate skills and knowledge in a professional workplace environment;
  2. effectively use written and verbal workplace communication skills to interact with a range of audiences;
  3. function effectively as a member of a professional workplace team and contribute positively to workplace outcomes;
  4. identify rudimentary problems in the workplace and suggest viable solutions.

Important assessment information

  1. Attendance requirements:
    There are no weekly attendance requirements for this course. However, it is the students’ responsibility to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration. This course involves gaining at least 15 days (or 105hrs) experience in an approved workplace.

  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To satisfactorily complete an individual assessment item a student must achieve at least 50% of the marks for that item.

  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    Students should refer to the Assessment Procedure (point 4.2.4)

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must obtain at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.

  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course: To be assured of a pass in this course students must submit each assessment item, achieve an aggregate of 50% of the marks available for the summative assessments and satisfactorily complete at least 15 days (or 105hrs) experience in an approved workplace.

  6. Examination information:
    As P is the only passing grade available for this course, all students who are qualified for a passing grade will be given a grade of P. Other students will be given either a Failing grade or an Incomplete grade.

  7. Examination period when Deferred/Supplementary examinations will be held:
    There is no examination in this course.
