Overview
Professionals in Agricultural Technology and related disciplines are required to operate safely and effectively within a range of agricultural production environments. Agricultural environments pose a range of hazards including plant, chemicals, working with animals and remote locations. The agricultural industry has the highest fatality rate of any Australian industry. This course, with its sister course AGR2104 Farm Safety and Operations 2, delivers a range of practical competencies to prepare students for safely operating within these environments.
In this course, students will be assessed against a range of competencies related to safe and effective operations within agricultural production environments including the safe operation and maintenance of agricultural machinery, the safe use of farm chemicals and working safely at heights for the installation of communications technology to support the use of connected agricultural technology. A combination of theoretical concepts and hands on training will be provided to develop these workplace competencies.
This course contains a mandatory residential school for external students and mandatory on-campus laboratories or practical classes for on-campus students.
Course learning outcomes
On completion of this course students should be able to:
- Demonstrate an appreciation of appropriate safety procedures and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Recall fundamental theory relating to the safe operation of and maintenance of agricultural machinery, the safe use of farm chemicals and working safely at heights.
- Demonstrate competency in the safe operation of and maintenance of agricultural machinery, the safe use of farm chemicals and working safely at heights relevant to the use of agricultural technologies in a range of settings through completion of a series of practical tasks.
